Ice cream days
Dallas delivers the perfect warm Spring day to explore.
Dallas, Texas: 16 February 2020
It becomes clear very early in the day (about half-way through my second run on the wonderful KATY Trail) that it’s going to be a warm day, really warm for winter. And warm weather (like nothing else - except blue sky) always makes for a good day.
Farmer’s Markets on a sunny day? That’s a no-brainer, y’all! Dallas Farmers Markets doubled as breakfast, and it didn’t disappoint (Tom might disagree). So many food options - more prepared food than fruit and veg (although there was some of that) and plenty of vegan options. Special mentions to SoCo spicy ginger beer, Trouvi Cookie Company cookies and Palmieri coffee.
A cross-check of lists recommends Bishop Arts District (based on hipster searches, of course), so we head there without an exact address not really knowing what to expect - but it is awesome! Just a few blocks but the coolest strip of blissfully wanderable cool shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. High instagram value and the new top place I’d recommend if you’re in Dallas!
Gourmet ice-cream is another shared love (after appreciating a good amount of Messina in Newtown) so Texas’ famous Melt Ice-cream is a go-to - delicious!
With Bishop Arts done, we head back out to the outlets (we ran out of time yesterday and I’ve decided I don’t like the colour of the jacket I bought). Jacket exchanged and purchases done, we’re ready for Super Saturday basketball from our AirBnb (with American snacks - York Mint Patties are my recommendation!). And we revisit Velvet Taco for a late, post-basketball dinner (we tried to go somewhere else but couldn’t resist more tacos).
Such a happy, balmy day with my boy. The happiest of days.
