Waking up in Asheville with two adorable new furry friends and cinnamon coffee is the stuff of dreams.

Asheville, North Carolina: 18 February 2020

While I had the pleasure of meeting my homeowner last night, who was lovely and welcoming he left early morning so I wake up with the house to myself, the dogs sleeping in my room (and giving me lots of welcome kisses) and a new place to explore.

The home owner’s brewed coffee is still warm giving me one of my happiest discoveries - a cinnamon stick in a batch of coffee. Delicious genius! And this wonderful mountain home is absolutely the best place to enjoy it - no rush, no place to be.

Adding a cinnamon stick to coffee when brewing - drinking that in this sunroom with a mountain view - perfect!

First task is to take Seamus and Riley for their first walk. They are both broken-coat Jack Russell Terriers (they call them JRTs). Riley is the girl who’s three years old and the smaller of the two. Seamus is actually Riley’s uncle and is six years old. I’ve been told Riley (in the pink harness) is the one who loves to run and isn’t great around other dogs. Seamus (in the green harness) is bigger, calmer and cuddlier. So we head out - along the graded dirt road that the house is on - one walk, two JRTs.

So it’s time to use that hire car in the driveway and find Whole Foods in town. This mountain oasis has me craving delicious fresh food, and I know that’s the place. Dinner was pumpkin noodles, edamame, asparagus, sugar snap peas, kale and Gotham vegan pesto teamed with the most delicious Mate Mint adaptagenic tea.

It’s the simplest of days but leaves me calm, refreshed and energised. What a wonderful life it is.

Riley became my little mate really quickly, making Seamus not happy with the situation!
