Blue skies and snow that stuck
Just when I thought Asheville couldn’t get more beautiful, it turns on the most perfect blue sky, snowy day.
Asheville, North Carolina: 21 February 2020
I was so sad when the sun set on my glorious snowy day, but I could never have imagined how beautiful the following day would be! I woke the kind of pink and purple sunrise that precedes a blue sky day and to my surprise the snow had stuck (I learned that term from my homeowner).
It’s bin day so that’s my first job, but when I start up the steep driveway I realise that what was snow has turned to hard, slippery ice over night. I get the bin up the driveway (and back down again safely) but I realise that I won’t be going anywhere today. No driving on icy roads for me!
So, first dog walk of the day is on the agenda. I quickly learned that that hard, invisible slippery ice wasn’t just on the driveway! Our usual walk, along the tree-covered dirt road was impossibly slippery so we headed in the opposite direction - up around the surrounding paved streets that had melted the snow. What an incredible place to live!
And once we’re back, there’s nothing to do except enjoy the beauty. And that’s what I do for the rest of the day - marvel at the blue skies and snow that sticks, and play with Jack Russells. This is the stuff dreams are made of.
